• Learned "Tinnitus Retraining Therapy" from Jastreboff (in Baltimore), who invented the technique
• Attended clinics with Shulman (in New York), Sandlin (in San Diego), and Sweetow (in San Francisco) to learn their approaches to tinnitus treatment; all are directors of tinnitus centers using a variety of treatment techniques
• Studied principles of hypnosis, cognitive therapy, and pharmacology as they relate to tinnitus
